AJAX: Just Cool Web Apps or Something Else?

On more than one occasion, I've been asked the question "Is AJAX just about cool looking website controls, or can it really help user experience?"
To help answer the question, I've posted a quick screencast of how my group wanted to improve the quality of our SAF (Strategic Architect Forum) conference registration site. After hearing a lot of feedback about the quality of the registration process last year, we decided to "practice what we preach" and implement some new controls using ASP.NET AJAX.
