Meet one of the faces behind Live.com

Robert Scoble writes "Recently Maryam interviewed Sanaz Ahari of Microsoft’s Live.com in her brand new office up in Redmond, WA. She talks about a range of stuff, including what it’s like to be a woman working in tech, along with what’s coming from the Live.com team. She is the main program manager on the home page team..."

I think the Microsoft Vista giveaway is an awesome idea

Robert Scoble writes "Lots of people like BL Ochman are screaming bloody murder about Microsoft giving bloggers and other influentials free laptops loaded with Windows Vista. I personally don’t get it. That is a GREAT idea. After all...."

First day of post-Microsoft sadness

Robert Scoble writes "The Vista team, under Jim Allchin, suprised me. They shipped it on time. With a lot better quality than I was expecting. Kudos to the team. My hat is off to you and can’t wait to get the final bits and start using them. I’m sad I can’t be there."

Microsoft search a lot better than it used to be

Robert Scoble writes "Damn, I saw some people talking about how much better Microsoft’s Live Search was and I just tried a few searches and, indeed, it’s a lot better than it used to be. They’ve significantly closed the gap with Google. How does it do on your favorite searches? I even picked out a random Windows API call and did a search on that. MSN used to always suck on those. But Live.com gets it right. It’s also fast and the UI is nice. I think it matches Google all the way around on search. Google is still slightly better on some searches...."

IE 7 team details RSS security precautions

Robert Scoble writes "I remember hearing many of the plans that the IE 7 team was working on to make sure customers remain safe. Sean Lyndersay of the IE team caught my eye with a post about the RSS security work in IE 7. "

Office team corrects news about its new ribbon

Robert Scoble writes "One thing that’s good about corporate blogging is you can correct the record when other news sites get things wrong. Here’s an example of this. Earlier this week a story broke across the blogs that Microsoft’s Office team was changing the way its new ribbon interface would work in the 2007 version of Office. Turns out that wasn’t true, according to Darren Strange who is a 2007 Office Product Manager. "

Teds excellent Office Dev videos

Robert Scoble writes "Ted Pattison was one of the highest rated speakers at the VSLive's that I used to help plan back in the 1990s. Nice to see that he's moved his work to the Web with a new Office 2007 show on Channel 9 — new screencasts will be released soon, most of which are centered on ..."

Tools matter, at least with video

Robert Scoble writes "...Yesterday Duncan uploaded a video I did with Jessica Arnold. She shows off Outlook 2007. Very cool. But what's interesting is the comments noted that the camera work seemed better. What changed? Certainly not my unsteady hand. But I finally broke down and got a $3,500 camcorder. Glad to see that the results are coming through the other side..."

Microsoft Word generates clean HTML for blogs?

Robert Scoble writes "Awesome. One Microsoft team heard my pleas for clean XHTML. By the way, the new Word 2007 has the ability to post to blogs built in. Joe Friend has been writing about it. Lots of Microsoft program managers push back and say "normal people don't care about HTML quality." That might be ... "

Channel 9 video on WPF/E (cool dev tech for Macs and Windows)

Robert Scoble writes "...An interesting video they threw up is one I did with the Windows Presentation Foundation Everywhere team. If you're a developer this technology will let ..."

Free .NET Developer Tour

Robert Scoble writes "The MSDN events team tells me they are taking to the road again in USA showing how to use the .NET Framework 2.0 and ASP.NET. Hmmm, those are the technologies that let us build On10.net with three team members in less than five weeks. Also the same tech that runs MySpace, one of the most traffic'ed sites on the Internet. Hey, it's free. "

Um, Robert, we do invite security experts to campus

Robert Scoble writes "Robert Cringley says that Microsoft doesn't invite security experts to campus to learn from them. This is patently NOT true. We regularly hold "BlueHat" conferences on campus. Why are these called "BlueHat?" Because of the blue color on employee badges. I attended part of the last one (it was held about a month ago). This is for Microsoft employees. On stage? Security experts from around the world. In fact, the BlueHat team has a blog where they list the security experts and topics that were invited onto campus to speak. "

Two years of Channel 9, whew

Robert Scoble writes "Today is the second birthday of Channel 9. I can't believe time has gone so quickly. Today, we put up a video with Anders Vinberg, architect of Microsoft's management infrastructure team. Charles did this one with me playing camera guy. So far there are 760 videos. When I look through the people I've met along this journey it's just amazing. Thanks to everyone at Microsoft who has ... "

A place to get a look at Office 2007

Cool stuff for developers over on Scott's blog

Robert Scoble writes "Scott Guthrie is a general manager at Microsoft. One thing I like is his blog. It's been getting more and more popular with developers over the past few months. In the past couple of weeks he's been blogging up a storm with fun stuff for developers, here's a sample: Atlas presentation and samples Using .NET to build cool games for Xbox (cool pictures!) RSS ToolKit for ASP.NET 2.0 Updated Great Atlas Map Mashup Tutorial ..."

Tell us your .NET troubles

Robert Scoble writes "Chris Sells is a developer here and is working on one of the .NET teams and he's looking for developers to tell him what sucks about .NET. "In this case, I’d like to know what “pain points” you experience when configuring, deploying and maintaining distributed .NET applications." Another human you can talk to here. "
